FoodCycle at Imperial College
Who we are
We believe that food should be available to all in sufficient quantity and nutritional quality. We will achieve this through empowering and focussing young people to have a positive influence upon their local community. We are dedicated to be consistent in our generosity to our neighbours.
Since the start in May 2009, we have continued to cook over the summer for the Notre Dame Refugee drop in. This year, not too much has changed, except that we are going to be getting more food from local sources and hopefully expand to feeding more people as many people have been hearing about how yummy our food is!
Project Leader Recruitment
Recognised as a year long internship with FoodCycle, you will be volunteering for 6-8 hours a week.
WARNING: Not for the faint of heart, it’ll be tough, but we promise what you will get out of the opportunity will be well worth it.
If you want to LEAD this project, we are accepting applications for 2-3 positions:
Responsibilities for the project leader team include
• Coordinating volunteers for the collecting, cooking and serving
• Organising community fundraising events to fund the project
• Connecting and maintaining relationships with food suppliers, volunteers and beneficiaries
• Spreading the news about the great work that you’re doing.
Sound daunting? Well, this is what you can get out of it:
• Event planning on and off campus
• Advertising and marketing skills
• The management and logistical coordination skills to cook for 100 people.
• Team work
• How to maintain relationships with people
• Raising the finances for a community project
• Professional contacts with local businesses and in the third sector.
Basically, the skills that your future employers are looking for in a fresh graduate!
If this inspires you, we'd definately love to hear a bit more about you: Click Here for the application form.
Funding
We aim to raise £5,000 this year. We will use this money to equip ourselves professionally, and boost the nutritional content of the meals we serve.
If you are interested in helping us with this, please get in touch. We can suggest items that you can help us purchase.
